James S. Landis, Sr.

James S. Landis Sr., 88, of Parkesburg, PA, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, August 25, 2024, in Honey Brook, PA.  He was the husband of the late Edith S. "Edie" Seekamp Landis who passed away in 2014.  Born in Parkesburg he was the son of the late John B. and Sophia B. Stauffer Landis.
He is survived by his children, James S. (Christine Titter) Landis Jr. of Parkesburg, Christine L. (Robert) Thomas of Parkesburg, Stephen C. Landis of Glenmoore, PA, his "adopted" son,     Sanjay Rowe of Parkesburg, seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and a sister, Carol (John) Silveri of Parkesburg.  He was preceded in death by siblings, Elizabeth Walker and     Frederick E. Landis.
Jim was a well-known resident of the area his entire life. He was very active in his church and community. He lived in West Sadsbury Township, where he served as Township Supervisor, Road Master, and Judge of Elections. When he retired as Chairman of the Supervisors, the township dedicated Preserve in recognition of his years of public service now know as Landis Preserve.  Jim always enjoyed working on cars and served as a mechanic for Reeder Tours, Penske, and ServiStar. After retirement, he continued to work as a driver for White Horse Construction in Parkesburg.

As a member of Upper Octorara Presbyterian Church, Jim served as an Elder, Trustee, Deacon, and Choir member. He also enjoyed helping with Bible School. In addition, Jim conducted Sunday worship at Harrison House and Newport Meadows in Christiana for over 33 years.  Jim was a big supporter of The Parkesburg Point where he liked to make his homemade mac & cheese for the kids. Jim was also a member of Skerrett Masonic Lodge #343 in Cochranville, where he served as Past Master and treasurer.
He will be missed greatly by his family and friends but we are rejoicing that he is in heaven and  reunited with his wife of 50 years, along with family and friends that have passed before him.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 12 noon from the Upper Octorara Presbyterian Church, 1121 Octorara Trail, Parkesburg, with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m.  Interment to follow at the adjoining church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Point, 700 Main St. Parkesburg.
