James R. Moore, 88, formerly of Coatesville and Downingtown, died Sunday, June 20, 2010 at the Coatesville Medical Center Hospice.
He was born on January 31, 1922, to the late Herbert P. Moore and Fay Heim Moore.
Jim was a WWII veteran and served in the European Theater with the 147th Combat Engineers. He landed on Omaha Beach the morning of June 6, 1944 D-day, and saw combat in France, Belgium and Germany until the end of the war.
He was employed by the Philadelphia Electric Company, Coatesville, primarily as a lineman from 1946 until his retirement in 1977. He lived most of his life in Downingtown, and for the last six years was a resident of the Southeastern PA Veteran's Center, Spring City, PA.
Until his disability, Jim was an active life member of the Downingtown VFW Post 845, serving as President and Commander for several years. He was actively involved with the Veteran's reunion group for the 147th Combat Engineers. He was also a member of the Downingtown Moose Lodge 1153.
He is survived by his son, H. Bruce Moore, daughter-in-law Jennifer S. Moore, daughter Jacquelin L. Moore, granddaughter, Kristin M. Byers, wife of Justin Byers of Coatesville, several nieces and nephews, and former wife S. Ada Moore. He was preceded in death by his brother Richard and sister Alice.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg, PA. Interment will be private, at Fort Indiantown Gap Military Cemetery.
