James J. Halter, 90, of Parkesburg, passed away on Friday March 15, 2024 at the Tel-Hai Nursing Home, Honey Brook, PA.
Jim was a Parkesburg resident all his life and a 1952 graduate of the former Parkesburg High School. He enlisted in the US Navy and served on the heavy cruiser USS Toledo in the Pacific during the Korean Conflict and later he served on the USS Destroyer Shelton in the South Pacific during the initial testing of the Hydrogen Bomb called "Operation Redwing" at the Bikini Atoll.
He was employed by Alcoa of Downingtown, formerly Reynolds Metals and Millprint, with 36 years of service retiring in 1996.
He was a life member of the Robert Montgomery VFW Post #4480 of Parkesburg and the Parkesburg Fire Company. He was also a faithful member of Our Lady of Consolation Parish of Parkesburg and was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by three brothers; Richard (Joan) Halter, Edward Halter, and Thomas Halter all of Parkesburg and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister Elizabeth Friemark and one nephew Gregory Halter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Consolation Church, 603 West Second Ave., Parkesburg, PA with visitation at the church from 9:30 AM to the time of the service followed by interment at Our Lady of the Seven Dolors Roman Catholic Cemetery, Parkesburg, PA.
