James C. Mills

James C. Mills , 86, also known as “The Kid” was born on August 8, 1932 in Washington, DC to the late Otis Mills and Mary Louise Brown Watson.  Jimmy departed this life quietly and peacefully surrounded by family on January 27, 2019.  His last words spoken were, “The Lord is My Shepherd, I Shall Not Want.”

Jimmy received his early education in the Virginia Public School System.

Keeping his memory alive is his wife, Reverend Doris V. Mills with whom he shared over 65 years of marriage and his four children; Wallace J. Mills of Lancaster, James C. Mills Jr. of Lancaster, Robin H. Mills of Parkesburg and Tina L. Johnson and husband, Joel of Lancaster; 18 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Jimmy was drafted into the United States Army where he honorably served during the Korean War.  He was employed by Lukens Steel Company of Coatesville for over 41 years.

As an adult, Jimmy accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and Lord of his life.  He was a servant leader at Mount Zion A.M.E. Church and served faithfully with compassion and dedication.  He was well-known as a” prayer warrior” because he loved to pray.  He would often say in his prayers, “just a few more risings and settings of the sun and this dusty march will soon be over.  No more heartache, no more disappointments and no more misunderstandings.  It will all be over after while and everyday will be Sunday.  I just want to hear him say, well done thy good and faithful servant.  You’ve been faithful over a few things, I’ll make you ruler over many.”

Jimmy is survived by three siblings; Raymond Mills, Michael Watson, and Edward Mills.  He was preceded in death by two daughters; Dawn C. Mills-Tinnin, Dorene J. Mills-King and four siblings; Mariam Mills, Otis Mills, Jr., George Payne and Kathleen Carson.

Jimmy was an avid EAGLES fan!  He loved the Eagles and Dodgers.  Every night he looked forward to eating vanilla bean ice cream and drinking orange soda on ice while watching his favorite movie, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Jimmy loved his family and enjoyed having them around him.  He will be greatly missed by all but the loving, gracious and merciful Lord has called him home.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday February 8, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Parkesburg United Methodist Church, 411 Main Street, Parkesburg, PA  19365 followed by interment at Mount Zion A.M.E. Church cemetery.  Family and friends are also invited to attend the viewing from 9 AM until the start of the service.
