James Bell Smith, Sr., 82, of Middleburg, Fl., formerly of Chester County, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2010. He was the widower of his late wife Esther Yoder Smith, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.
Born on March 4, 1928 in Coatesville, he was the son of George H. Smith and Gertrude Mullen Smith. He served honorably in the US Army during WWII and was a life member of the VFW of Coatesville and a member of the American Legion Post 28 of Millsboro, DE.
He was retired as a truck diver from both L L Meloy Son, Inc. of Coatesville and Coca Cola Bottling Co. of Coatesville.
James was a member of the Brandywine - Goddard Lodge #383 F&AM of Coatesville, as well as the Scottish Rite and Valley of Reading.
He is survived by his son, James Smith Jr., husband of Paula, of Illinois, Jean Thompson, wife of Jack, of Millsboro, DE, and Lynne Lonsinger, wife of William, of Parkesburg; eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Steven Smith, daughter-in-law, Rose Smith, grandson, James Eric Smith; three brothers, Samuel, George and Louis and one sister, Anna Cassel.
The Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg, followed by interment in the Glen Run Cemetery of Atglen. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation, which will take place from 10 until 10:45 a.m., at which time a Mason Service will be held.
