James B. Norton III, 79, formerly of Parkesburg, PA, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2022, in Coatesville, PA. He was the husband of the late Nancy Dumbauld Norton who passed away in 2019. They shared 50 years of marriage together. Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late James B. Norton Jr. and Florence Alden Norton.
Jim was a Coatesville and Parkesburg resident his entire life. He graduated from Scott High School, Susquehanna University, and earned his master's degree in English from Temple University. He taught English and Television Journalism in the Coatesville School District. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Coatesville and the Parkesburg Lions Club.
Jim served as President of the Parkesburg Borough and the Chester County Library for 20 years. He was a member of CATA and served as President at times during his 35 years of teaching in the Coatesville Area School District.
He founded the Red Brick Players Theatre Company, The Summer Theatre Project, and the Lion's Club 10 &41 Consignment Shop where he acted as Producer, Director, and General Manager.
Jim appeared as a performer in dozens of theatrical productions in the tristate area over the years at theatres like The Three Little Bakers, Barley Sheaf Players, Milburn Stone Theater and Joyce Hill Stoner Productions.
He is survived by his brother, John A. Norton of Maine and his sister in law, Barbi Norton. He is survived by his children, Nicole A. Norton of Parkesburg, PA and Niles A. Norton of Coatesville, PA, three grandchildren; William N. Hollingsworth, Alden T. Hollingsworth, and Vivian C. Hollingsworth, and son-in-law David J. Hollingsworth.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 107 S. 17th Ave., Coatesville, PA, on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 11:00 AM. The Norton Family will greet and receive guests after the service and interment, where there will be a luncheon provided in the Great Hall at the church.
