Ida Mae Large

Ida Mae graduated from the Downingtown High School in 1945. She was employed in her younger years, at G.O. Carlson in Thorndale. For 18 years, she and husband owned and operated Dee's, a Mom & Pop grocery store in Parkesburg. Many adults have fond memories of buying their penny candy at Dee's when they were children. For the last 10 years, Ida Mae owned and operated a consignment shop, Crafts and Collectibles, in the same store location. She also was employed by the Parkesburg District Justice office and the Law Office of Norman J. Pine, Sr.

Ida Mae spent most of her adult life in service to others. After her husband and son were killed by a drunk driver she devoted years to the MADD organization spreading the message about the dangers of drinking and driving.

She was also a loyal member and leader in the  Parkesburg Lioness Club, taught Sunday School for many years at the Parkesburg Baptist Church where she was named Woman of the Year in 1998. Ida Mae was also involved in the Lancaster County victim Impact Panel and was a lifetime member of the Parkesburg Fire Company. She also drove for the Blind Association.

She is survived by two brothers; Norman Robinson and wife Loretta of Coatesville and Carl Robinson of Gap, and three sisters; Olga "Gus", wife of Cliff Iron of Downingtown, Sarah "Sally" Sisk of Wilmington, DE, and Alice, wife of John Myers of Christiana, PA, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John "Skip" Robinson and George Robinson and two sisters Madeline "Sis" Thomas and Edith "Nootsie" McIntire.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 19, 2013 at 11am from the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St. Parkesburg followed by interment at the Upper Octorara Cemetery. Family and friends are also invited to attend the viewing at the funeral home from 9 to 11am.
