Hazel M. Townsend

July 23, 1929 — March 24, 2024

Hazel M. Townsend, 94, of Parkesburg, PA, formerly of Cochranville, PA, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, March 24, 2024. She was the wife of the late William C. Townsend who passed away in January 2022. Born in West Grove, PA, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Josephine (Powell) Mellinger.

Hazel worked as a cashier at the former Webster's Store in Ercildoun, East Fallowfield, PA. She was a fifty-year member of the Cochranville Eastern Star Chapter #347 and currently remains a member of Robert Fulton Chapter #446. Hazel was also a member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Gum Tree.

Hazel’s happiness centered around family, friends and taking care of others. She enjoyed her summers by the pool and helping her husband tending to the garden, freezing and canning the bounties of their garden. Her love for Eastern Star was shown in the number of stations she served in and the succession to Worthy Matron twice and District Deputy Grand Matron. Family meant the world to her, especially in her older years as grandchildren and great-grandchildren arrived.

She is survived by her daughters and sons in law; Sandra and Jeff Pluck of Parkesburg, and Pamela and John Hochmuth of Raleigh, NC, five grandchildren; Rob Webster, Michele Reynolds and husband Mark, Jessica Detwiler and husband Chris, David Hochmuth and wife Shannon, and Ashley Bellamy and husband PJ; seven great-grandchildren; Lily, Cole, Piper, Landon, Shealyn, Ava and Harper and a sister, Ruth Johnson of Modena. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Leroy, Wayne, Donald, Bobby, and Johnny Mellinger, and her sisters, Betty Smith and Doris Meredith.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. from the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg, PA with visitation starting at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Star services will be held at 10:55 a.m. Interment to follow at Friendship Methodist Cemetery in Gum Tree.
