Harry L. Fisher, Sr., 92, formerly of Nickel Mines, Pa., passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the Masonic Village of Elizabethtown. He was the widower of the late Dorothy B. Mullen Fisher, who passed in 2000.
Born on Sept. 27, 1917 in Victoria, Tx., he was the son of the late Lavina Hooley Fisher and Stephen Fisher. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He was employed by the former Lukens Steel as a Crane Operator and was also a General Contractor. Harry loved to work.
He attended the Episcopal Church of Parkesburg and was a member of the Masonic Lodge #417 F.& A.M. of Christiana, PA.
He is survived by six children: Alice Joy Sherman, wife of Paul, of Ronks, William S. Fisher, husband of Judy, of Honey Brook, Harry L. Fisher Jr., husband of Nancy, of Canton, Pa., Betty Jane Probst, wife of Ed, of Seabring, Fl., Robert Fisher, husband of Betty, of Gap and Ralph Fisher, husband of Jessica, of Paradise; 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and eight great, great grandchildren; five siblings, Helen Ours of Harrisonburg, Va., Verta Byler of Honey Brook, Edwin Fisher of Shunk and Harold and Vernon Fisher, both of Gap. He was predeceased by his siblings Lester, Ralph, Ken, Alvin, Mable, Ruth and Grace.
Harry Fisher's family history dates back to 1732, with his first direct descendent immigrating to the US in the early 1750s from Germany. They eventually settled in the Byerstown -- Ronks area in Eastern Lancaster County. There are now ten generations in the family.
The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Maple Grove Mennonite Church, 549 Swan Rd., Atglen, with the Rev. Steve Crane officiating. Interment on Satuday, February 13, 2010 in the St. John's Cemetery of Compass. Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing, which will be held at the Church from 1 p.m. until 1:45 at which time the Masonic Service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Harry's memory to the "Masonic Charities" and mailed to the Office of Gift Planning, Masonic Village at Elizabethtown, One Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022-2199.
