Harry G. Conner, 91, of Unionville, PA passed away Thursday, February 7 at Pocopson Home, Pocopson, PA, after a long illness. Harry was born December 2, 1921 in Baltimore, MD, son of James Conner and Mary Fader Conner.
He attended the University of Delaware and Johns Hopkins University, earning degrees in electrical engineering. Before completing his university studies, Harry served as a communications sergeant in the United States Army for four years during WWII, on tour in North Africa, France, and Italy.
He worked for DuPont for 34 years as an electrical engineer, specializing as an electrical safety expert. He continued with private consulting after retiring from DuPont.
On January 30, 1948 he married Louise Cogar, the love of his life, a registered nurse. They recently celebrated 65 years of marriage.
He was a member of Sigma Xi, a scientific and engineering research society. He was an avid ham operator as a teenager, having one of the first ham operator licenses in the state of Maryland. He was a long time member of the Southern Chester County Sportsmen’s and Farmers’ Association. He enjoyed spending time making and shooting his muzzle loading rifles and was one of the founders of the Brandywine Long Rifles Association. His interest in repairing and building watches and clocks and building fine furniture provided him with many years of pleasure and challenges. Harry and Louise also enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and abroad during their retirement years. He grew up with an appreciation of photography, photographed incessantly, and passed that interest on to others in his family.
He is survived by his devoted wife Louise, his children Susan (David) Dell of Glenville, PA, Lois Conner of New York, New York, Andrew (Margaret) of Unionville, PA and Linda (C. Douglas) Woodacre of Wellesley, MA., his grandchildren Allan (Debbie) Arnold of Ohatchee, AL, Belinda (Ray) Bernadzikowski of York, PA, Adam (Vanessa) Conner of Chester, MT, Amanda Conner of Mantua, NJ, Wescott Woodacre of Natick, MA, Winslow Woodacre of Wellesley, MA and Kelley Woodacre of Framingham, MA, and his great-grandchildren Zachary Arnold, Clara, Grace, Lance and Madeline Bernadzikowski and Seth Conner, and his identical twin brother Dr. Eugene Conner of Dallas, TX.
Harry touched many lives with his generosity of time, knowledge, many talents, and encouragement.
A Celebration of Life visitation will be held at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg, PA on Saturday, March 30, 2013 from 3 to 5pm. Family and friends are invited to the Beale Manor, in Parkesburg for light refreshments immediately following the services.
