Harper Schlimme, 89, of Cedar Knoll, passed on February 4th 2017, at Tel Hai Retirement Community.
Born in the Compass area in July, 1928 to the late Fred and Helen Thompson Schlimme, Harper had ten brothers and sisters. Twin brother Edwin was 16 when he passed, followed by Fred, Dorothy Leslie Stern, Edgar, Harry, and Helen Rice.
He is survived by sisters Ruth Diobilda, Marjorie Bartone, Jean Morgan, and Joan Schlimme. Harper was married for almost seventy years to Wanda Schnader, who passed before him in 2015.
He attended the Compass School, then Gordon Jr. High, then S. Horace Scott Sr. High School. He served in the US Navy in 1946 and 1947. Harper retired in 1990 after forty years with PECO Electric. He was a founding member of the West Caln Sportsmen’s Club, a lifetime member of the NRA, a member of Pine Valley Cabin, and a founding member of Valley View Cabin. His greatest joys were spending summers with Wanda at their site in Chincoteague Virginia and fishing from their boat in the Chesapeake Bay; traveling the continental US and Alaska in their motor home; hunting, playing poker, and drinking beer with his male friends in a cabin somewhere in Wyoming or Pennsylvania; and riding his snowmobile or motorcycle with friends.
He and Wanda had four children: Charlotte Scott of Florida; Barry and his wife Mackey McNeill of Independence Kentucky; Beverly Carvell Somers of Hillsborough California, deceased; David and his wife Mary Robins of Malvern, PA. Harper had six grandchildren: Sarah, Tyler, Nathan, Michael, Jason and Matthew.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, February 17th at 2:00 PM at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main Street, Parkesburg, PA with the Rev. Mark E. Beideman officiating. Visitation from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the West Caln Sportsmen's Club, PO Box 58, Wagontown, PA 19376.
