Harold V. Murphey, Jr.

July 16, 1921 — May 10, 2015

Harold V. Murphey, Jr., 93, of Parkesburg, passed away on Sunday, May 10th, 2015 with his daughter and son-in-law at his home.  He was the widower of Virginia McDaniel Murphey with whom he shared 57 years of marriage until her death in 1999.

Born in Parkesburg, Harold was the son of the late Harold V. Murphey, Sr. and Elsie (Reed) Geesey; and stepson of Leon Geesey.  He was a lifelong resident of Parkesburg and graduated from the former Parkesburg High School, class of 1939.

Harold served honorably in the US Marine Corp. during W.W.II.

He retired from the former Lukens Steel in 1981, having worked as a Supervisor in the Welding Shop for 40 years.

Harold was a 78 year member of the Parkesburg United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School for many years and held various leadership positions.  He belonged to the Lanchester Methodist Men, Atglen Sportsman's Club and Wawassan Post of the American Legion.

He is survived by his daughter, Virginia Polk, wife of Robert, of Marshallton and sister, Joan Ressel of Lancaster.  He was predeceased by his brother Kenneth T. Murphey.

The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 11 AM at the Parkesburg United Methodist Church, 411 Main St., Parkesburg followed by interment in the Upper Octorara Cemetery.  Viewing will be held at the Church from 10 until 11 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkesburg United Methodist Church.
