Harold R. Thompson, 84, of Downingtown, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2009 at the V.A. Medical Center of Coatesville. He was the beloved husband of Edith M. Morris Thompson, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.
Born in Pomeroy, he was the son of the late Harold E. and Kathryn F. Esch Thompson. He was a graduate from the Scott High School in 1943. He served honorably in the US Army during W.W.II. He was an Insurance Agent for Nationwide Insurance for 40 years, retiring 9 years ago.
Harold was a member of the Hopewell United Methodist Church as well as The Gideons; he was Boy Scout Troop Leader of Troop 8 of Hopewell, a lifetime member of the East Brandywine Fire Co.
He is survived, in addition to his wife, by four children: Edith M. Hagans, wife of Howard, of Christiana, Harold R. Thompson Jr., husband of Alma, of Carson, Ca., Charles H. Thompson, husband of Connie, of Gettysburg and Kurt A. Thompson, husband of Ellen, of Glenmoore; six grandchildren, Eric Hagans, Shannon Heverin, April Hagans, William Thompson, Kathryn Thompson and Colin Eyler; four great grandchildren, Anthony Gill, Rebecca Hagans, Nathan Heverin and Madeline Heverin; and siblings, Charles F. Thompson of Coatesville and Elsie M. Ranck of Thorndale.
The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 11 at 1 p.m. at the Hopewell United Methodist Church, 852 Hopewell Rd., Downingtown, PA 19335, with Pastor Vicki Pry officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing, which will be held from 12 noon until 1 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Harold's memory may either be made to the Hopewell United Methodist Church, at the above address, or to Gideons International, P.O Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214.
