Harold E. "Brownie" McCarter, 91, of West Chester, died on Sunday, October 30, 2016. He was the husband of the late Eleanor D. Villbrandt McCarter who died in 2008. They shared 64 years of marriage together. Born in Highland Township, Chester County, he was the son of the late William and Viola Jamison McCarter.
Harold was an area resident all his life and a 1943 graduate of the former Scott High School in Coatesville. He proudly served in the US Army during WWII with the 513th Parachute Infantry Regiment and was wounded and captured in combat during the Battle of The Bulge. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Purple Heart Medal and the POW Medal.
He was employed by Pepperidge Farms retiring as production supervisor. Brownie was a member of the Olivet United Methodist Church of Coatesville, the Kennett Square American Legion, the Downingtown VFW, the West End Fire Co. and the Brandywine Chapter of Ex-POWs.
He is survived by six children; Deborah McCarter of West Chester, Harold W. McCarter of West Chester, Jacqueline McCarter of West Grove, Janice Ficca (Hugo) of Seaford, DE, Eleanor Clevenstine (J. Shaff) of Birdsboro and Karen McCarter of Lititz; 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and one great grandchild on the way. He was preceded in death by all his siblings.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 11:00 am from the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St. Parkesburg, PA followed by interment in the Friendship Methodist Cemetery. Viewing from 9:00 am to the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in his memory to the Neighborhood Hospice, 400 East Marshall Street, West Chester, PA 19380.
