"Guitar" George Rogers

September 14, 1984 — August 29, 2023

George Douglas Rogers, 38, of Parkesburg, PA, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, as the result of an automobile accident. He was the beloved husband of Andrea Sullivan Rogers of Parkesburg. Born in Wilmington, DE, he was the son of George Francis Rogers of Parkesburg and Carolyn Slay Grigsby of King of Prussia, PA.

George’s primary occupation was construction and home improvements. He was a fixer of all things, and took great pride in his work. He loved finding broken items on the side of the road and tinkering to make them useful again. Although a contractor by trade, George’s greatest joy was playing music for family and loved ones. George could play any instrument he picked up, but primarily played guitar and sang with the stage name Guitar George in numerous bands through the years, as well as performing solo gigs.

Through George’s career as a musician, he played at many local venues, numerous locations at the NJ shore and DE and MD beaches, casinos, and as far as Key West, FL. Anyone who met George immediately remembered him for his phenomenal talent. He also enjoyed writing and recording his own music with close friends, of which he was immensely proud. Many of George’s closest friendships were formed through music. No matter the time passed or distance, when George ran into a friend, it was as if no time had passed at all. He greatly valued his music buddies, his fishing buddies, old friends from school, and friends who came to his gigs. He loved them all.

The only love George had that was greater than his love of music was the love he had for his family. George wouldn’t get off the phone without saying “I love you.” George dearly loved his family and cherished any chance he had to spend time with them. Whether it was relaxing at a family party, teaching his children to fish or fix something, or just a random visit to his mom, aunts, cousins, or mom mom, George absolutely loved being with his family. He always said that love is the most important thing. The loss of George’s presence will be felt deeply by his family and loved ones.

Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by his precious children, Caileigh Rogers of Mt. Joy, PA, Wyatt Rogers of Parkesburg, stepsons, Greg and Josiah Martin of Parkesburg, a brother, Steven (Mary Smith) Rogers of Coatesville, PA, sisters, Allison and Danielle Schultze of Coatesville, PA, and maternal grandmother, Carol Ann Slay of Bowers Beach, DE. He is also survived by four loving aunts and uncles, and many cousins whom he loved dearly. George had a special relationship with his Aunt Freda Mae Khan of Alleghenyville, PA, who was more like a sister than an aunt.

A celebration of life service will be held at the VFW in Parkesburg, PA, on Sunday, September 24 with visitation starting at 3:00 PM followed by a memorial service to begin at 3:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Wilde Funeral Home to help defray funeral costs.
