Gertrude Mcelyea

Gertrude McElyea, 92, of Downingtown, passed away on December 24, 2017 at the home of her daughter Connie in West Chester.  She was the widow of the late Martin McElyea who passed away in 1969, after 26 years of marriage.

Born in Coatesville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Young O'Brien.  She was a graduate of the Coatesville Area High School.  She worked as a cashier at the former A&P (now Superfresh) of Coatesville.

Gertrude was a member of Hephzibah Baptist Church of East Fallowfeld and she enjoyed volunteering at the Brandywine Thrift Shop in Lionville.

She is survived by her two children: Martin McElyea of Coatesville, and Connie D'Antonio, wife of James, of West Chester; 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Gerri Dunlap, two brothers and two sisters

The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 3rd, 2018 at 11 AM at the Hephzibah Baptist Church, 2237 Strasburg Rd, Coatesville, PA 19320 with a viewing from 10 until 11 AM.  The interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.
