Gerald C. Newswanger

Gerald C. Newswanger, 78, of Atglen, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at his home.  He was the widower of the late Donna Ruth Newswanger, who passed away in 1996.

Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late Ethel and Walter Newswanger.

He was a graduate of the Coatesville High School.  He served honorably in the US Army.

Gerald retired from the former Lukens Steel in 1982, after nearly 30 years of employment in the Metallurgical Test Laboratory.

Gerald is survived by his daughter Lorri Thompson of Atglen; two grandchildren, Nicole Thompson and Jessica Thompson; his dear friend Donald T. Moore, Sr. and his many family and friends.

He was predeceased by all his siblings: Mabel Mann, James Newswanger, Mildred Weaver and Ruth Smoker.

The visitation will be held on Thursday, July 24 from 6 until 8 PM at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the family, who are starting a fund for his two granddaughters.
