George H. Supplee, Sr.

George H. Supplee, Sr., 78, of Romansville and Bradenton, FL, died August 11, 2015 at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Born in West Chester, PA on February 19, 1937, he was the son of the late Virginia (Reeves) and George E. Supplee.

He was predeceased by his first wife Joan Hart Supplee in 1993.

Survived by his wife Barbara Weinman Supplee and children Kathleen Supplee (Philip Hutchison) Newark, DE; George H. Supplee, Jr. (Robin) Romansville, Kelly Supplee (Robert Scott) Chadds Ford; Karen Fischetti (Daniel) Downingtown, Kristy Hertzog (Christopher) Downingtown; Jonathan Weinman (Hope) Marshfield, MA; Dr. David Weinman (Stacy) Westfield, NJ; Pamela Weinman Glenmont, NY; Kristina Flathers (Christopher) Wilmington, DE and grandchildren Sydney and Alex Supplee, Payton Stong, Ava and Camryn Hertzog, Jacob and Rachel Weinman and Henry and Kathryn Flathers.

Also survived by brothers William Supplee (Romansville), Robert Supplee, Esq. (West Chester), John Supplee (Romansville), Richard Supplee (Romansville) and Peter Supplee (Romansville) and several nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Downingtown High School and the University of Delaware with a BS in Mechanical Engineering.  He was a member of the Army ROTC at the university and upon graduation he served as a 2nd Lt. while on active duty.  He worked at Philco Corporation and then worked in the space division of General Electric for several years and was proud of the work that he did in helping the country land on the moon.  He was the engineer for the former Coatesville Hospital and was the engineer in charge of building the new Brandywine Hospital.  He then went to the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, DE where he was the engineer in charge of completing the building of that new hospital.  He retired from the duPont Hospital in 2004.  In 1975, he founded Highland Construction, a housing construction company which his son joined and continues to manage.

George enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and loved the time he spent at his home in Florida.

He was a member of Brandywine-Goddard Lodge #383 F&AM and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon.  He was a member of the Romansville United Methodist Church and was the treasurer of the church, a position he held for many years.

George will be remembered most of all for his love of his family.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in George's memory to the Building Fund at the Romansville United Methodist Church, 1859 Strasburg Road, Coatesville PA 19320 or Cardiovascular Medicine Research, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, The Jefferson Foundation, 125 S. 9th Street, Suite 700, Philadelphia, PA 19107.

The funeral service and burial will be private.  The family is inviting George's extended family, friends and colleagues to join in a celebration of life at the family house at 1885 Shadyside Road, West Bradford Township on Saturday, August 15, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM.
