Francis Lee Underwood, 93, of Cary, North Carolina went to his heavenly mansion on January 27, 2024.
Born February 17, 1930, Francis was born and raised in Parkesburg, Pennsylvania. The son of Horace and Hazel Underwood, Francis graduated from the Parkesburg School in 1948 and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Parkesburg.
After high school, Francis started his career in the postal service, working his way up to Postmaster in the Parkesburg, Post Office. In 1951 he was drafted into the Army and served his country during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953. He then returned to Parkesburg and resumed his career in the postal service and married Carol with whom he had three children. In 1968 Francis was offered a position in the postal service as a Postal Inspector which took him and his family to Long Island, New York and Chatham, New Jersey. In 1986 Francis retired from service after 36 years.
After retiring Francis enjoyed hiking, working on his Marklin railroad trains, running the sound system at his local church and volunteering at Trans World Radio. He was devoted to Jesus Christ, family, and Church. His dry sense of humor was a joy to many.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Joan Crabbs Underwood, his second wife Mitzi Severyns Underwood, brother David Underwood and son-in-law David Ward.
Francis is survived by his son, Craig Underwood (Karen) of Landisville, PA, daughters, Mary Wilson (Kirk) of Cary, NC and Joanne Ward of Earlysville, VA, ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 10:30 AM at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main Street, Parkesburg, PA 19365 with visitation from 10:00 AM to the time of the service. Interment will follow at the Upper Octorara Cemetery, Parkesburg, PA.
