Florence Skiles "Flossie" Johnson, 92, formerly of West Caln Township, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at the Brandywine Hospital. She was the wife of the late Harold O. Johnson who died in 2008. Born in West Caln Twp., she was the daughter of the late James W. and Helen Townsley Skiles.
Flossie was an area resident all her life and a 1941 graduate of the Parkesburg High School. She continued her education and graduated in 1945 from the Coatesville Hospital School of Nursing. During WWII she served as a Cadet Nurse in Martinsburg, W. VA. She continued her career as an E.R. nurse and retired in 1998 from the Brandywine Hospital. She also worked part-time for the County Line Medical Center in Gap, PA.
She was a parishioner at St. John's Episcopal Church in Compass, PA where she served with the Vestry and the Altar Guild.
She is survived by her children, Joanne J. Cipollini of Malvern, Suellen Johnson and husband, Jay Tract of Fleetwood, Helen J. Esbenshade of West Chester, Nelson O. Johnson and wife, Susanne of Denver, PA and Carole Johnson and husband Harold Green of Lincoln University, four grandchildren and two siblings; James Skiles of South Carolina and wife Rae and Frances Gilfillan and husband Richard of Christiana. She was preceded in death by two siblings, Martin Skiles and Rebecca Johnson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John's Episcopal Church, 1520 W. Kings Highway, Gap, PA 17527 on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 11:00 am followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing and visitation will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St. Parkesburg, PA from 2-4 PM.
