Florence A. Hammond, 98, of Harrison Senior Living of Christiana, formally of Parkesburg, went home to be with her Lord on September 8, 2009. Born in Lancaster County she was the daughter of late Harry and Josephine White and was the youngest of 11 children.
She was the wife of the late Herbert Hammond.
Florence worked for the Bond family of Christiana most of her life as a housekeeper.
Florence attended Mt. Zion AME Church in Atglen where she was fondly called Aunt Florence. Florence loved the Lord and she would let you know that. She was active with all church functions including, stewardess, ushers, missionary, and sang in all the church choirs up until her mid 90's.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her son, Sidney L. Hammond of Gap, her grandchildren, Rodney, of Paradise, Sandra, of Atglen, Sidney Jr. of Parkesburg, Sydney Lynn of Coatesville, one step grandchild, Judy, of Gap, many great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and one nephew, Steven, that she helped raise.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Samuel, Roy, and Earl, seven sisters, Effie, Blanche, Lena, Marian, Marie, Pearl, and Viola , and one grandson, Byron.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 15, at 11:00am, from Mt. Zion AME Church, Atgeln, PA. followed by internment in the adjoining cemetery. Family and friends are also invited to attend the viewing at the church from 9:00 to 11:00am.
