Flora Fay Rutledge, 91, formerly of West Caln prior to moving to Zerbe Sisters Retirement Community in Narvon in 2016, died peacefully at Zerbe Sisters. She was the beloved wife of late Bruce C. Rutledge with whom she shared 65 years of marriage.
Flora was born in Bloomsburg, PA and grew up on the family farm on Savage Hill in Rohrsburg, Columbia County, PA. She was the daughter of the late Samuel Clyde Rhone and Stella Blanche Rhone and one of six children; five sisters and one brother, all preceded her in death. She attended Millville High School and graduated in 1950. She met her future husband Bruce Rutledge while he was in the US Navy and after marriage, the couple moved to the Coatesville area of Chester County where Bruce worked at Lukens Steel Company. Flora held various part time jobs, but eventually became a homemaker. She loved cooking, growing flowers, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Trinity in Coatesville and served in the “Women of Trinity”.
Flora is survived by Deborah F. Deets (wife of Lawrence Deets) of Downingtown, PA; two sons, David B. Rutledge of Mount Joy, PA and James A. Rutledge (husband of Karla Rutledge) of Coatesville, PA; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023 at 12:30pm with a memorial service following at 1:30pm at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, 104 S. Village Ave., Exton, PA 19341. Interment will be held immediately after the service at Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery, 852 Hopewell Rd, Downingtown, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Zerbe Sisters Retirement Community, 2499 Zerbe Rd, Narvon, PA 17555.
