Ellsworth H. White

July 26, 1929 — October 9, 2019

Ellsworth H. White, 90, of Atglen, passed away on Wednesday, October 9th under the care of Brandywine Hospital.  He was the widower of Mary E. Miller White, with whom he shared more than 50 years of marriage.

Born in Atglen, he was the son of the late Harriett Rebecca Cordelia Smith and Roy White.

Ellsworth served honorably in the US Army from 1951 through 1953 during the Korean War.  Throughout his life, Ellsworth worked at the former Lukens Steel, the former Lenover Corporation, and at the Green Giant, which later became Pillsbury.

Ellsworth expressed his faith through service to the community of Mt. Zion AME Church.  Ellsworth sang in the Men's Choir, New Life Choir, and the Mass Choir; he served in every capacity possible, including usher, trustee and as the cemetery caretaker.

Ellsworth was affectionately known as "Pop".  He enjoyed gardening, taking care of his yard and Gospel Music.

He is survived by his two sons, Gregory White, husband of Mary, of Lancaster, and Wayne White of Atglen; four grandchildren, Terrence, Sellena, Re’Teasha, and Shawn; and 12 great-grandchildren; and his last remaining sibling, Dorothy Denson of Parkesburg; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family members and his church family.

He was predeceased by his grandson, Gregory White, Jr. as well as his siblings, Edna Melendez, Vera Smith, Beatrice Coleman, and Harold, Donald, Roy Jr., and Vernon White.

The funeral service will take place on Friday, October 18th at 12 noon.  To hold all his family and church family, the funeral will be held at Parkesburg United Methodist Church, 411 Main St, Parkesburg, PA 19365 with a viewing at the church from 10 AM until noon.  Interment in Mt. Zion AME Cemetery will follow.
