Dorothy R. Smith

Dorothy R. Smith, 85, of Lancaster, passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 while under the care of Providence Place Nursing Home in Lancaster. She was the wife of the late Joseph R. Smith who died in 2010. They shared 53 years of marriage together. Born in Coatesville, she was the daughter of the late Clyde H. Warden and Helen Miller Warden.

Dorothy was an area resident all her life and a 1954 graduate of the former H. Scott High School in Coatesville. After graduation, she continued her education at the Coatesville School of Nursing graduating in 1957 as a Registered Nurse. She began her nursing career at the former Coatesville Hospital and later was employed by Dr. Warner in Parkesburg and then Dr. Giunta in Downingtown retiring in 2010 after 53 years of service.

She attended the Providence Church in New Providence, PA. She enjoyed golfing, needlepoint, reading and doing puzzles but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by three children; Dennis R. Smith and wife Cynthia of Apex, NC, Debora L. Crank and husband Kenneth of New Providence, PA and Steven J. Smith and wife Lynn of Londonderry, VT, eight grandchildren; Amy, Timothy, Ashley, Caitlin, Taylor, Ryan, Andrew and Jordan, 11 great grandchildren; Rhylea, Tyson, Connor, Cooper, Austin, Carter, Kendall, Tanner, Reece, Lillie and Hallie, two sisters; Blanche Summers of New Holland, PA and Myra White of Matthews, NC and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Heart Association.

There will be a visitation on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at the Wilde Funeral Home from 10-11 AM.  After the visitation, there will be a private service.   Arrangements have been entrusted to the Wilde Funeral Home of Parkesburg, PA. Online condolences can be posted at www.wildefuneralhome.com
