Dorothy M. Martin

Dorothy M. Martin, 100, formerly of Parkesburg, passed away on Monday, March 7, 2011 at the Tel-Hai Retirement Community. Born on March 29, 1910 in Parkesburg, she was the daughter of the late Grier and Mae Gillespie Martin. An area resident all her life, and a graduate of West Chester University, Miss Martin served the community for several generations as a 7th grade school teacher beginning her teaching career at the Parkesburg High School and retiring in 1972 from the Octorara School District. She was also the longest living member of the Parkesburg Baptist Church having joined the church in 1927.

Miss Martin is survived by a grandniece, Judith Scott of Christiana, PA, grandnephew David Martin of Coatesville, great grandniece Christi Scott of Christiana, great grandnephews Robert Scott of West Palm Beach, FL. and Jonathan and Joshua Martin both of Coatesville.

She was preceded in death by one brother Edward Martin, two sisters Reba Martin and Ethel Montgomery and sister-in-law Ethel Martin.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 11, 2011 at 11:00 am from the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St. Parkesburg, PA followed by interment at the Upper Octorara Cemetery. Family and friends are also invited to attend the viewing at the funeral home from 10 to 11:00 am.
