David Frederick Sergeant

November 18, 1929 — August 1, 2020

David Frederick Sergeant, 90, of West Brandywine, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2020, at his home.  He was the widower of the late Dorothy White Sergeant who passed away in 1972 and his second wife, Nancy Swager Stein Sergeant who passed away in 2006.

Born in Philadelphia, David was the son of the late Catherine Rutlinger and Robert Gaylee Sergeant.  He graduated from Williamson Trade School in 1948 and earned a degree in Machining.  He honorably served in the US Army in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. After the Army, he held several jobs in quality control and machining.  He was self-employed as a machinist from 1981-2014.

David joined the Masonic Lodge in 1955 and was a member of Shiloh Lodge #558 of Souderton, PA. Later, he transferred to Howell Lodge #405 in Honey Brook, PA in the mid-1970s, where he served for several years as Junior Deacon.  David was a member of the National Camping Travelers East Penn Chapter 12 and served as a Past Master of Travel.  He was a member of the Brandywine Valley Ski Assoc. since the mid-1970s, traveling here and abroad.  He was a long time member of Hibernia United Methodist Church.

David was an avid bicyclist, riding for more than 30 years.  He was especially proud when his fellow bicycling friends celebrated his 70th birthday after finishing the Seagull Century (100 miles) ride.

David is survived by his children, David A. Stein (Janine) of Coatesville, PA, Susan S. Baroni (Jeff) of Glenmoore, PA, Lynda A. Sergeant of Coatesville, PA and Sandra S. Welsh (John) of Gap, PA, two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren plus his brothers, Grant Sergeant of Doylestown, PA and Luther Sergeant of Lansdale, PA.  David was preceded in death by his brother Bruce Sergeant who passed away in 2018.

Family and friends are invited to attend Memorial Services on Sunday, August 30, 2020, at 3:00 PM at the Parkesburg United Methodist Church, 411 Main Street, Parkesburg, PA 19365 with a visitation from 2:00 - 3:00 PM. Masonic services will be conducted at 2:45 PM. To protect those at-risk, please wear a face mask and practice social distancing at the service.
