Cynthia Nace Barnes, of Cochranville, PA, passed away in the early hours of June 7, 2018, at her home of 43 years after a short illness.  She was the wife of Elwood Eugene Barnes for almost 54 years.

Born in Baltimore, MD on August 30, 1940, she was the daughter of the late William and Ella Anderson Nace of Oakland, MD.

Cynthia was educated through high school in Oakland, and then attended Radford College obtaining a degree in mathematics.  She taught in various schools in Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania. She was then employed at West Chester University developing large data bases and other computer programs.  Ultimately she co-founded a startup company, Elementum, which developed various custom software.

Cynthia was active with canine therapy programs in local retirement communities and at the Coatesville Veteran's Administration with her poodle partner, Jean-Luc. She also enjoyed gardening, putting up food from the garden, world travel, photography, and creating computer software.

She is survived in addition to her husband by a son, John Scott Barnes of Wenonah, NJ, and siblings, William D. Nace of Warrenton, VA, and Thomas A. Nace of Queensbury, NY.  She was preceded in death by a brother, David A. Nace.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend services from the Wilde Funeral Home, Parkesburg, PA on Saturday, June 16th: visitation at 10 AM followed by a memorial service at 11 AM. Attendees may offer a brief remembrance if they wish. Interment will take place at a future date in Chapel Cemetery near Libertytown, MD.

She will be interred at a brief graveside gathering at 11 on Saturday, July 14, 2018 in her family plot at the Chapel Evangelical Lutheran church near Libertytown MD.  Following this, family and friends are invited to attend a luncheon held at the Village Tavern, Walkersville (122 Walkers Village Way 21793) in celebration of her life, many kindnesses and good works.

Note despite the church having an address of 11109 Daysville Road, Walkersville MD 21701 it is located near Libertytown, MD

In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial donations be made to Neighborhood Hospice of Chester County, 400 E. Marshall St., West Chester, PA, 19380, or to the Salvation Army Summer Camp Tuition Program, Attn: William Parker, 701 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA, 19123.
