Cornelius A. "Cornie" Maxwell

Cornelius A. "Cornie" Maxwell, 89, of Coatesville, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2009, at the Brandywine Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Jean Erb Maxwell, with whom he would have shared 58 years of marriage and friendship this coming June.

Born in Coatesville on February 5, 1920, he was the son of the late Richard L. and Emma Fox Maxwell. An area resident his entire life, he was a 1938 graduate of the Coatesville High School. He served honorably for four years in the US Navy during W.W.II, serving in both the European and Pacific Theaters. He was retired from the former Lukens Steel Co. where he worked in the Sales Dept. for 44 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the the Lukens Veterans Guild and a 14-year member of the Parkesburg Senior Citizens. Mr. Maxwell was a member of the Christiana United Methodist Church, where he served as Trustee for 21 years.

He is survived by five children: Sharon McCarter of Northeast, MD, Glenn D. Maxwell of East Fallowfield, Diane S. Campbell, wife of Mark, of Leola, Gary D. Maxwell, husband of Debra, of Coatesville and Michael S. Maxwell, husband of Rebecca, of Elizabethtown; his sister, Gloria Soulliard of Kimberton; six grandchildren and one great grandson. He was predeceased by his brother Richard and granddaughter, Jennifer McCarter.

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg, followed by interment in the Bellevue Cemetery of Gap. Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing, which will be held at the Funeral Home from 10 a.m until the time of the service.

In honor of Mr. Maxwell, memorial donations may be made to either the Alzheimer's Association, Delaware Valley Chapter, 100 N. 17th St., Second Floor, Philadelphia, PA 19103 or to the Christiana United Methodist Church, Stained Glass Window Fund, P.O. Box 45, Christiana, PA 17509.
