Clyde Shepherd, 91, of Honey Brook, passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 3, 2022. Born in Whitetop, Virginia, he was the son of the late, Roe Shepherd and Eliza (Tucker) Shepherd. He was the beloved husband of Frieda (Ward) Shepherd with whom he shared 67 years of marriage.
Following Clyde’s formal education, he went on to honorably serve our nation as a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon his arrival home, he was introduced to his future wife Frieda, who he married after just three months of dating. The newlyweds would travel to Pennsylvania seeking work and planted roots in Honey Brook, where Clyde would build their family home from the ground up and would eventually house their three beloved children. Their home was a hub for local Bible studies, Sunday gatherings after church, and a place for missionaries and friends, and family to stay when traveling to this area. Clyde would play an important role in the foundation of Wyebrook Baptist Church, which was founded by his relatives. He served as a deacon for many years.
Outside of Church and family Clyde worked for Pillsbury as a premix operator for 38 years before his retirement in 1993. He enjoyed trips to French Creek to swim, attending family reunions, and had a passion for taking photos, having to give it up as he lost his eyesight.
He is survived in addition to his wife by three children: Steven Shepherd and his wife, Linda, Susan Broomell wife of Donald, and Rita Edwards wife of Doug, 5 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and one sister Hazel Hamm of Honey Brook. He is preceded in death by 6 brothers, Earl, Fred, Willard, Charlie, Mont, and Ray (all Shepherds) 2 sisters, Rosie Stamper and Blanche Greer, and granddaughter Alicia Whisler and great-grandson Joshua Broomell.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, August 12, 2022, from Wyebrook Baptist Church, 62 New Road, Elverson, PA 19520. Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation period taking place from 10 AM until the start of the service. Interment will directly follow at Elverson United Methodist Cemetery.
