Clifford F. Irons, 93, of Downingtown, passed away on Saturday, December 15th, 2018 at LifeCare in West Chester.
He was the beloved husband of Olga A. (Gussie) Irons with whom he shared 72 years of marriage.
Born in Eagle, PA, Cliff was the son of the late Raymond S. and Pearl Irons. Cliff is survived by his two children, Dr. Kathryn Lindenfeld and her significant other, Joseph J. Palochko, and Raymond C. Irons and his wife, Sharrill A. Irons. His is also survived by his sister, Jane F. Aikens and her husband, Sonny Aikens. In addition, he is survived by 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Cliff was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond S. Irons, Jr. and Robert L. Irons and two sisters, Jeannette Moore Piersol and Clara A. Patton.
Cliff served honorably with the US Navy's SeaBees 7th Battalion from 1944 till returning from Okinawa in 1946. Upon his return, he resumed working on his father's family farm. He retired from the US Postal Service as a rural letter carrier (1953 - 1981). He retired after 56 accident-free years of service with Krapf's Bus Companies as a bus driver.
From 1977 - 1986, Cliff and his wife, Gussie, owned and operated the Village Square Dance Hall in Gutheriesville, PA.
Cliff was a 50 year Mason with the Mt. Pickering Lodge. He volunteered with East Brandywine Fire Co. for many years.
Cliff and Gussie have enjoyed participating in a bowling league, attending SeaBea reunions held on alternate years (serving as chairman for one of the reunions), traveling, camping and square dancing. They have traveled to all 50 states and parts of Canada.
A memorial service will be held at Simpson Meadows, 101 Plaza Dr., Downingtown, Pa., on Saturday, December 22 at 2 PM with a visitation from 1:30 PM until the time of the service. Use Simpson Meadows main entrance and the Downingtown Methodist Church's parking lot. Interment will be held at a later date.
All who knew Cliff will miss his teasing sense of humor, his colorful language, and how he was always willing to be of help. He was a good man with a big heart.
