Clare C.Lawless passed away peacefully at her home in Highland Township, PA on Sunday, Dec. 20th, 2020. She was 95. Born in Meriden, CT she is the daughter of John and Frances Curry. Upon graduation from Meriden High School, she attended Willimantic Teachers College before being recruited as a stewardess for United Airlines.
Clare is preceded by her loving husband of 40 years, John F. Lawless Esq. who served as a Naval Officer in WWII. Also, by siblings Margery Scully of Clinton, CT and Jack Curry and David Curry of Meriden, CT. She is survived by sister Winifred Saunders and brother Capt. Leo Curry USN (Ret) of West Chester, PA and by her four children, daughters Mary Lawless and Curry Hagerty and sons John Lawless Jr. and Anthony Lawless, and by grandchildren Grace, John and Annie Hagerty.
Clare was a devoted mother and grandmother. She had a rare warmth of personality that left a lasting impression upon all who met her. She was a devout Catholic and an avid traveler, sports fan, and bridge player who enjoyed volunteering her time at church events and throughout many years as a docent at Winterthur Museum. Lifelong friends, as well as new, enjoyed Clare’s zest for life, love of adventure, and a streak of mischief.
A memorial mass will held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 11, 2021 from St. Malachi Catholic Chapel, 76 St Malachi Rd, Cochranville, PA 19330. A vistitation will take place from 9:30 until the start of the service.
