Charles L. Cairns

Charles L. Cairns, 99, of Honey Brook, formerly of Sadsburyville, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at the Hickory House Nursing Home. He was the widower of the late Eleanor Nichol Cairns, who passed away in 1990 and the late Olive Drennen Cairns, who passed away in 2004.

Born in West Brandywine Twp., he was the son of the late Robert and Florence Parke Cairns. A 1929 graduate of the Coatesville High School, he was employed by the Reading Railroad as a Freight Conductor, retiring in 1974. He was a fireman with both the Sadsburyville and Pomeroy Fire Companies. Charles was a member of the Upper Octorara Presbyterian Church of Parkesburg.

He is survived by his daughter, Jane Louise Bevan, wife of Robert, of West Chester; six grandchildren, Susan Baggott, Saundra Ritchey, Robert Cairns, Jr., Sheri Comisac, Donald Cairns, and Mark Cairns; 14 great grandchildren and two daughters-in-law, Nancy Cairns of Kingsville, MD and Becky Cairns of Sadsburyville. He was preceded in death by two sons, Charles L. Cairns Jr. and Robert Allan "Sam" Cairns.

The Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2009 at 3 PM at the Upper Octorara Presbyterian Church, 1121 Octorara Trail, Parkesburg, PA 19365. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation, which will be held at the Church from 2 until 3 PM. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Sadsburyville Fire Co., P.O. Box 72, Sadsburyville, PA 19369, or to the Upper Octorara Church at the above address.
