Carlos Rivas - Bermudez, Sr.

Carlos Rivas - Bermudez, Sr., 70, of Coatesville, passed away on Wednesday, January 23rd at Geisinger Shamokin Area Community College.  He was the beloved husband of Luz Awilda Torres Rivas, with whom he shared nearly 50 years of marriage.

Born in Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico, Carlos was the son of the late Candido Ortiz and Obe E. Bermudez.

Carlos worked at YMCA as the maintenance manager, as well as the Salvation Army and was an entrepreneur.

He was a die hard Eagles fan and loved hosting and cooking for parties.  Carlos was a fisherman and would often take his catch and give it to the homeless.  He had a big-heart and would give you the shirt off his back.  But most of all, he loved his kids and grandkids.

He is survived by his children: Woldermar Rivas of Florida, Cynthia Rivas - Lowery, wife of Samuel "Mike" Lowery, of Virginia Beach, Va., Carlos Rivas, Jr. of Fort Lauderdale, Rhonda Rivas of Florida, and Jessina and Brovi "El Negro"; grandchildren, Justin Alexander Rivas, Alex Gonzalez, Jasmine Allyssa Buendia, Markeith Aponte Lowery, Cierra Yllese Lowery, Kyson Rivas, Natalya Rivas, Ethyn Rivas, and Xavier; and siblings,  Luz Bernal of Coatesville, Aida Martinez of Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico, Norma Santiago of Wilmington, DE, Ivan Ortiz of Philadelphia, PA, Angel Ramon Ortiz of Puerto Rico, Luz Linnette Ortiz of Wilmington, DE, Luz Jeannette Ortiz of Puerto Rico, Rachel Rivera of Wilmington, DE,  and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Santos A. Ortiz Bermudez and Confesor Ortiz.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 1 PM at Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg, with a viewing from 11 AM until 1 PM.  Interment at the Fairview Cemetery will happen at a later date.
