C. Wi lliam "Mac" McCarty died unexpectedly on May 29, 2009. He was 76 years old. The only child of William M. McCarty and Margaret "Peg" Alexander, he was born and raised in Parkesburg. After graduation, he joined the Navy and served aboard the USS Kearsarge (CVA-33), Port of San Diego where he met Frances Salazar. They were married in 1956, and he became a devoted husband, father, and provider.
After 37 years of service as a Systems Analyst at Lukens Steel he retired and devoted more time to his model airplanes and attending his grandchildren's sports and school activities. He lived by the Golden Rule, laughed often, and loved much. You only had to meet Mac one time and you had a buddy.
Mac was preceded in death by a son, William J. McCarty, and his wife of 49 years. Recently he fell in love with Ferne Pellman, and the two were engaged to be married in September. They dreamed of having ten good years together, but packed a lot of living into the nine months they were given. Despite the pain of loss, Ferne says it was worth it. We are grateful to her and her family for the joy they brought into his life. Mac will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
To carry on his legacy he leaves Terry McCarty of Leola, Kevin and Patti McCarty of New Bloomfield, and Thomas and Heather McCarty of Elkton, MD. He is also survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 5, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg with a viewing from 12 until 2 PM. Interment will follow in the Parkesburg Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and/or the American Heart Association.
