Bernice I. Yates-Cox, 100, of East Fallowfield passed away at home on Monday, February 6, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Ashe County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Elihu L. Taylor and Agnes (Surber) Taylor. She was widowed by Roby G. Yates, who passed away in 1968 and by Coy R. Cox who passed away in 2001.
Bernice lived in West Virginia until the mid 1950’s where she was a member of Crozier Baptist Church, where she came to know Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was a member of the choir.
She attended Gary High School and later moved to Pennsylvania with her family as they searched for work. She held a variety of jobs while raising two children and maintaining her role as homemaker.
She was an active member of Atglen Missionary Baptist Church until the decline of her health.
She is survived by two children: Darlene Hughes and husband Paul of East Fallowfield and Ernest Yates and wife Dora also of East Fallowfield. Additionally, she is survived by two grandchildren: Lisa Hughes and Leon Yates and wife Lindsay and Great Grandchildren: Lillianna Yates and Lucas Yates.
She is preceded in death by four siblings: Worth Taylor, Cecil Taylor, Delano Taylor, and Jerry Taylor.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, February 13, 2023 from the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg, PA 19365 . Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation period taking place from 10 AM until the start of the service. Interment will directly follow at Fairview Cemetery of Coatesville.
