Barbara J. (Dero) Creekmur, 62, of Denver, formerly of Coatesville, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2019.
Born January 30th, 1957 in Coatesville, she was the daughter of the late Charles Michael Dero and Bertha (Petro) Dero Amole.
Barbara was a 1974 graduate of Coatesville High School, where she was an honor student and varsity cheerleader. As a child, she also played the accordion and sang in the church choir.
She attended West Chester University for two years before graduating from Hahnemann University as a Registered Nurse. She worked at the VA Hospital in Coatesville, retiring as the head nurse in 1999.
As a child, she enjoyed the family vacations to Wildwood, a tradition that she continued with her children, often vacationing and sipping White Zinfandel through Twizzlers with her close friend and neighbor Angie Bailey.
She enjoyed playing Spit, War, and Rummy, and watched her game show network, often claiming that if she was ever on a game show, she'd win. She was a big fan of Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Eagles. She was a bookworm and loved reading crime and murder mystery novels.
She attended as many of her children and grandchildren's events that she could. She loved watching their football, baseball, basketball games, and recitals. She taught her children and grandchildren how to crochet, the value of frugality, and a strong work ethic. Although her love continues in her family and friends, she will be deeply missed by all she touched.
Barbara will be remembered for her huge heart and her desire to help anyone and everyone she could. She was always willing to give anything she had.
Barbara is survived by her two children: Arlette Creekmur of Strasburg and RC (Rudolph) Creekmur III of Parkesburg; grandchildren, Arlen Carter, Amaya Creekmur, Jonathan Carter Jr., Braylon Carter, RC Creekmur IV, Cayden Carter, Chase Creekmur, and Caleb Creekmur; her siblings, Charles Dero, Carol Jackson, Antoinette "Toni" Graden, Teresa Dero, Gregory Dero, and Michael Dero; her nieces and nephews, including Stan Bryant who she helped raise; and her friend Angie Bailey, and Angie's children Jasmine and Lauren. Barbara is also survived by her companion of over 10 years, John Peter Kurenda; as well as the father of her children, Rudolph L. Creekmur, Jr.
The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 7th at 11 AM at Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg, Pa, with a visitation at the funeral home from 9:30 to 11 AM.
