Amos W. Yoder

Amos W. Yoder, 89, formerly of Gap, PA, entered into eternal rest September 4, 2010 at Landis Homes

He was one of the original church planters of the Parkesburg Mennonite Church where he was ordained deacon in 1950 at the age of 29. He later served as pastor.

He was born February 23, 1921 in Greenwood, Delaware, son of the late David S. and Savilla Bender Yoder.

He was preceded in death by his wife Gertrude Kennel who died January 3, 2004 and one great-grandson.

He is survived by five daughters; Velma (Jack Magill), Melanie (Elvin Ressler), Judith (Ralph Nafziger), Amy (Dale Herr), Twila (Daniel McKenney); three sons, Arlin, Leslie (Suzanne Kepiro), Karl (Julie Whorl); 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He is survied by brothers David, Daniel, Paul and Jesse, and one sister Miriam Hall.

He was preceeded in death by his sisters Ruth Bontrager and Naomi Yoder and brothers John, Mark and Luke.

He served 4 years in Civilian Public Service.  He was a bi- vocational pastor who also worked as a carpenter.

He served as a volunteer for MDS and at Lacaster Mennonite Historical Society.

A viewing will be held at Parkesburg Mennonite Church, 44 East 2nd Street, Parkesburg, PA, Monday evening, September 6 from 6-8 PM.

The funeral service will be held at Millwood Mennonite Church, 441 Amish Road, Gap, PA at 2:00 pm Tuesday, September 7. There will be a viewing on Tuesday from 1 pm until the time of the service.
