Alma Wilson Thomas

December 6, 1921 — May 27, 2016

Alma Wilson Thomas, 94, of Parkesburg, passed away on Friday May 27th, 2016, with her family.
She was the beloved wife of the late Richard D. Thomas, with whom she shared 72 years of marriage.
Born in Christiana, Alma was the daughter of the late Walter H. Wilson and Nora McMillian. She was raised on a farm in Steelville, where she learned the value of hard work and a love of gardening. By her mother's side she learned to sew, cook for a big family, and keep a lovely home.
Alma and Dick were married in 1941. Pearl Harbor occurred on their honeymoon, and while Dick served in New Guinea, Alma opened her own business, the Lady Fair Beauty Salon, in their home in Parkesburg. She later worked as a teacher's aide at Octorara Elementary School and the Childhood Development Center in Coatesville.
She was a faithful member of the Parkesburg United Methodist Church, where she organized church suppers for many years.
Alma was devoted to her family. She worked on their houses, took care of grandchildren, organized vacations, and fed everyone. Alma and Dick had expectations for their family and set the standard by their example. Alma was the family rock through sickness, helping whenever needed and taking care of her husband for many years. She was always a giver and a doer by nature.
Alma thoroughly enjoyed people, hosting endless gatherings for her family and friends that kept relationships close. She had many talents that she quietly shared with anyone she came to know. She made many prom and wedding dresses, baked pies for the whole neighborhood, was a talented painter, played bridge, and had beautiful flower gardens. Her circle of influence extended her mothering to friends, neighbors, and students. She believed in people and her strength made a difference in many lives, caring enough to encourage them and not lose touch.
She is survived by their two children; Richard K. Thomas and wife Penny of Pittsburgh and Beth T. Davis and husband Randy Frantz, of Parkesburg; five grandchildren, Britton, Bradley and Barrett Thomas and their spouses, and William Davis and Abby Fauth and their spouses; five great grandchildren, Phoebe and Stella Fauth, Aiden and Lily Thomas and Blake Thomas.
She is also survived by two siblings, Rebecca Semple and Joan Smith. She was preceded in death by three siblings, Thelma Wentz, Ethel Rea, and Harry K. Wilson.
Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services with a viewing at 9am on Friday, June 3rd, followed by services at 11am at the Parkesburg United Methodist Church, 411 Main St., Parkesburg, PA 19365. Interment will follow at the Glen Run Cemetery, Atglen.
