William Robert DeCesare
William Robert DeCesare, 78, of Kinzer, passed away on Sunday, September 12th, 2021 at Paoli Hospital. Born in Bridgeport, Conn., Robert was the son of the late Lillian (Pasacreda) and Joseph DeCesare.
William graduated from an all Catholic Boys high school in Wilmington, DE, and served five years in the United States Air Force and then attended the University of Delaware for two years, earning an Associate's Degree in Accounting. During his career, he worked for several leasing companies for 20 years. William was a mail handler for the US Post Office in Reading, PA from 1985 until retirement in 2005. While working for the Post office, he was Treasurer of Local 308 Mail Handlers Union for six years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in South Boston, VA.
William enjoyed attending auctions and he sold goods at his stand at Saturday’s Market near Elizabethtown for several years, since he needed a spot to sell the items he bought and did not want to keep. He also enjoyed playing golf and going to Delaware Park.
William started playing duplicate bridge 30+ years ago because I read the newspaper bridge columns and didn’t understand it, he took five bridge lessons, and off he went. When life got busy, William took a 20-year break from playing Bridge. After he returned to playing Bridge, there was a whole new way to play so he had to take more lessons to catch up with the latest techniques. He was a bronze life master, certified director, and teacher in duplicate bridge. He also enjoyed traveling and spending several weeks each year on vacation. His favorite vacation destination was Rome.
He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer (Gary) Cook of Kinzers, and Bridget (Joe) Zappacosta of Michigan, grandchildren, Timothy W. Burns of Newark, DE, Gregory B. Hall Jr. of Kinzers, Vinny and Carmella Zappacosta both of Michigan, great-grandchildren, Dominic Burns of Arizona, Lucas Burns of Newark, DE, Colton Hall, McKayla Hall, Grayson Hall, and Sophia Hall all of New Holland, PA, and a sister, Joan (Bernie) McHugh of Wilmington, DE.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Lisa Lowe.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. from his daughter, Jennifer's home in Kinzers, PA.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilde Funeral Home of Parkesburg.
