Verna Mae Walton, 86, formerly of Atglen, PA, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025, at Fairmount Homes in Ephrata, PA.  She was the wife of the late Robert L. Walton Sr. who passed away in 2020.  Born in Atglen she was the daughter of the late Jay and Martha Kauffman Stoltzfus.

Verna attended the Parkesburg Schools and graduated from Lancaster Mennonite High School. She worked various jobs over the years including a Crossing Guard for the Parkesburg Elementary School, the Parkesburg Laundromat, the Parkesburg Sewing Factory, the former Ben Franklin Department Store, and Twin Brook Winery.

She enjoyed roller skating and met her husband at the Parkesburg Roller Rink.  They were married in 1958 at the Parkesburg Methodist Church Parsonage and were together for over 62 years.  She also enjoyed gardening, family gatherings and trout fishing.  She was a member of the Ladies League at Strasburg Bowling Lanes for many years.

She is survived by a daughter, Cindy Lou (Thomas) Wertz of Narvon, PA, daughter-in-law, Cindy (Doc Holmes) Walton of Canton, PA, grandchildren, Allison (John) Majcher, Josh (Lynnellen) Wertz, and siblings Lee (Joyce) Stoltzfus and Fern Dull.

She was preceded in death by siblings, Wilmer (Ruth) Stoltzfus and Jay(Pauline) Stoltzfus and sisters in law Betty Shockney and Nancy Butcher,  a son, Robert L. Walton Jr., grandson, Keith Walton,  and granddaughter Amy McLaughlin.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. from the Wilde Funeral Home, Parkesburg, with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m.  Interment to follow at Upper Octorara Cemetery in Parkesburg.

Condolences

We were truly saddened to hear about Verna's passing.  We were very blessed to have Verna & Bob & Grammy as our neighbors.  We have so many fond memories to cherish, like her garden and making beef jerky and homemade ice cream and just to many others to list.  They were both like an extra pair of grandparents to Eric and Cory.  We will surely will miss her.  Love, The Barkers
