He entered basic training and trained to become a Military Policeman at Fort Gordon, GA.  His tours of duty were serving at White Sands, NM, as well as in Taegu, South Korea.  After being Honorably Discharged in September 1963, he entered the army reserves until 1967.  He resumed his role in the Postal Service, serving as a "Temp" in Philadelphia, PA, and then as a "Temp" in Coatesville, finally making "Regular" Letter Carrier in the early 1970's.  Robert retired in 2000 after serving 41 years.

In addition to his wife, Deborah, he is survived by two sons, Michael Todd Russell (Nathalie) and Martin Andrew Russell (Mary).  He was "Pop Pop" to Ana, Nolan, and Camille.
