Richard Matthew Schmidt, 73, of East Earl, died on Wednesday, February 26th at Lancaster General Hospital.
He was the beloved husband of Nancy Schmidt, with whom he shared nearly 54 years of marriage.
Born in Chester, Pa., he was the son of the late Katherine (Taylor) and John Schmidt.
He served honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam War.
Richard worked at the former Lukens Steel, retiring as a millwright after 27 years.
Richard loved nature, watching Christmas shows like White Christmas, Elvis, tinkering around the house, grocery shopping and poking fun at his family and friends.
He is survived, in addition to his wife, by his three children: Tina Simmers, wife of Gary, Richard Schmidt, and Kenneth Schmidt; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Patricia Hatfield.
He was predeceased by his siblings John Schmidt, Barbara Gilbert, Ralph Schmidt, Robert Schmidt, Sr., and William Schmidt, Sr.
At Richard's request, there will be no service.
