Phyllis H. Beck Ferguson
Phyllis H. Beck Ferguson, 94, of West Caln Township, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at Tel Hai Retirement Community, Honey Brook, PA. She was born in Upper Darby, PA to the late Clinton and Ora Coder Beck. She was married to the late John T. Ferguson, Jr.
Phyllis was a 1948 graduate of the former H. Scott High School in Coatesville, PA where she played French horn in the Marching Band. She continued her education at West Chester University, graduating with a teaching degree in Elementary Education. In 1970, she completed a Master's Degree in Elementary Guidance from Millersville University.
Phyllis was employed for 25 years by the Spring-Ford School District in Royersford, PA. She began her career as an elementary teacher. After receiving her Master’s Degree, she helped develop the first Elementary Guidance program at Spring-Ford and served for many years as their first Elementary Guidance Counselor. She and her family lived in Spring City for many years.
Phyllis and John also enjoyed camping with their family, traveling all over the United States, Canada and Alaska. In retirement, she and John also traveled to Florida each winter, enjoying time with family and friends. Summers were always spent with family and friends at the family cottage on the Chesapeake Bay.
From the time she married John, Phyllis became an active member of the Forks of the Brandywine Presbyterian Church in Glenmoore, PA. She faithfully served in the Sunday School, the Youth Group and was pianist during church services for many years.
Phyllis was also involved in the Gideon International Ministries in the Ladies Auxillary.
She and John also faithfully supported many Christian ministries including the Seminary Education Fund at their church, Christian Fellowship of India, Child Evangelism of Chester County, Water Street Mission, and World Gospel Mission to name a few.
She is survived by three daughters: Susan Albright and husband Jim of Mountville, PA, Cheryl Eckman and husband Greg of Oxford, PA and Nancy Swarr and husband Harold of Strasburg, PA. She is survived by 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are 3 sisters: Hazel Sensenig, Lillian Amos and Deborah Hall and one brother, James Beck. She was pre-deceased by her husband, John; sisters Shirley Riggins and Carol Keinard; and grandson, Peter Swarr.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 24 at 10:30 AM at the Forks of the Brandywine Presbyterian Church, 1648 Horseshoe Pike, Glenmoore, PA 19343 followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery and a luncheon. Family and friends are also invited to visit with the family at the church on that morning prior to the service from 9:00 - 10:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Phyllis’ memory to the Forks of the Brandywine Seminary Scholarship fund at the above address.
