John H. McCutcheon, 97, of Oxford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Union Hospital in Elkton, MD surrounded by loved ones. He was the husband of the late Leona Postich McCutcheon who died in 2017, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.  Born in New York City, NY, he was the son of the late William McCutcheon and Eva (Koehler) McCutcheon.

John grew up in New York. In 1944 he enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served on the aircraft carrier, USS Lake Champlain, in the European Theater during WWII. After the war, John earned a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and a master’s degree from the University of Missouri.  He met and married Lee, and they eventually settled in Dover, NJ, where they raised their family.  For most of his life, John was employed as a regional manager for the Social Security Administration.  After his retirement in the early 1990s, John and Lee moved to Pennsylvania to be closer to their children and grandchildren.  John spent many years of his retirement volunteering his time teaching English as a second language.

John was a long-time member of Rockaway Presbyterian Church in Rockaway, NJ, where he faithfully served as treasurer for many years, and was most recently a member of Manor Presbyterian Church of Cochranville, PA.

He is survived and will be deeply missed by his two children, William McCutcheon and wife Kelly of Bel Air, MD and Dorothy Simpson and husband Stephen of Cochranville, PA, six grandchildren, John McCutcheon, Madeline McCutcheon, Nicole Klaproth and her husband Daniel, Jesse and his wife Dana, John Simpson, and James Simpson, and two great grandchildren, Elle and Scottie Klaproth. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William and James McCutcheon, and three sisters, Frances McCutcheon, Madeline Dawson, and Evelyn Tirocke.

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, August 2, 2024 at Manor Presbyterian Church, 505 Street Road, Cochranville, PA 19330, with visitation starting at 11:00 A.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in John’s memory to Ware Presbyterian Village, Village Care Fund, 7 E. Locust St. Oxford, PA 19363.

We have fond memories of him from New London Presbyterian Church, a place where he showed how to serve God and one another by just doing it. As a father I know he could not have been more loved by his daughter, Dorothy, and her family and by William and his family.  His time on earth sounds amazing and Full.....would that we all were to live such a life of Service and Love.  Our hearts are with you as you mourn and celebrate this beautiful Soul.
