Helen E. Henry, 82, a long time resident of Malvern, passed away on June 11, 2018, at her home at Freedom Village Retirement Community in Coatesville, PA. She was the widow of the late James D. “Don” Henry who died in 2015. Helen and Don were inseparable, sharing 58 years of marriage together.

Helen will be remembered for unconditionally loving and serving her family. She had a way of knowing what each person needed before they even realized they needed her help. She would gladly join Don on trips to their children’s homes, working alongside him to repair, remodel, or simply chip in around the house, always bringing a meal to share. Spending time with family was her gift to them, whether watching kids or grandkids perform in plays, concerts, or sporting events, or spending countless hours just listening to the details of their day or playing board games. She was at the heart of many family traditions and was famous for hosting holiday dinners and “Birthday Bashes,” complete with a “tin foil wrapped present” for each child who wasn’t lucky enough to be having a birthday.

Others outside the family will remember Helen for her devotion as well. She was a hardworking secretary for East Whiteland Township for over 20 years, but moreover, she worked hard to maintain relationships with cherished friends, some that she has known for decades, and some she has just met since moving to Freedom Village Retirement Community two years ago.

Helen was born in Camden, NJ and was the daughter of the late Edward and Freda Schoeffling Heston. She is survived by three children: Linda J. Sarian and husband Dave of Parkesburg, Sharon L. Solomon and husband Paul of Atglen, and Glenn B. Henry and wife Beth of Aldan, PA. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Jessica Sarian Windle and husband Steve, Megan Sarian, Matthew Sarian, Stephanie Solomon, Rachel Solomon McNaughton and husband Seth, Daniel Solomon and wife Ellen, Emily Solomon, Jack Henry, Kate Henry, Will Henry, and one great-grandson Harrison Windle. Helen was preceded in death by two siblings: Edward Heston and Dorothy Bishop.

Relatives and friends are invited to arrive at 10 to visit with the family prior to the Celebration of Life Service which will begin at 10:30 am on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Freedom Village Retirement Community, 15 Freedom Boulevard, Coatesville, PA. Donations in her memory to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
