Hazel Marie Morris Shank
Hazel Marie Morris Shank, 82, of New Holland, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at the Garden Spot Village of New Holland. She was the wife of the late Thomas G. "Tommy" Shank who died in 1981 with whom she shared 27 years of marriage. Born in Coatesville, PA, she was the youngest daughter of the late Francis Edwin Morris and Marion Koehler Morris Greenwood.
An area resident her entire life, Hazel was a 1951 graduate of Scott High School. She was employed at G.O. Carlson's in Thorndale, PA after high school where she met Tommy. They were married in 1953. After she was widowed, she was employed for 16 years, by Caln Township where she retired. She was a faith member of Our Lady of Consolation Roman Catholic Church and its mission church St. Malachi where she sang in the choir for many years. She and Tommy acted as caretakers of St. Malachi, which she continued for many years after his death. She served on the Parish Council, was a member of the Sodality of theBlessed Virgin Mary, was a steady volunteer at Bingo well after she retired and provided office help in the rectory. She was the Class of 1951 reunion Secretary-Treasurer and loved getting together with the members of her class regularly for many years.
Hazel is survived by her children, Ann E. Shank-Dickey, wife of Dale Dickey of East Fallowfield,Timothy B. Shank and wife Wanda of Lincoln University, PA, Dolores M. Shank- Samiec, wife of Kazimierz Samiec of Perkiomenville, PA, John P. Shank and wife Lisa Roberts of Oaks, PA, Robert E. Shank and wife Sherry of Boyertown, PA, Dennis F. Shank and wife Deborah of Cochranville, PA and Thomas G. Shank II and wife Jane of Greensboro, NC, 12 grandchildren, and three great grandchild and one sister, Marion Morris Robinson of Parkesburg. She was preceded in death by her oldest sister Ruth Barnes and older brothers Edwin F. Morris and James S. Morris.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 15, 2016 at 10:30am from the St. Malachi Chapel, 76 St. Malachi Road, Cochranville, PA 19330 followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery. Family and friends are also invited to attend the visitation at the Chapel from 9:00am until to the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers,memorial donations may be made to St. Malachi Church, 603 West 2nd Ave.,Parkesburg, PA 19365 or the Garden Spot Village Benevolent Fund, 433 S. Kinzer Ave.,New Holland, PA 17557.
