Born in the Compass area in July, 1928 to the late Fred and Helen Thompson Schlimme, Harper had ten brothers and sisters. Twin brother Edwin was 16 when he passed, followed by Fred, Dorothy Leslie Stern, Edgar, Harry, and Helen Rice.

He is survived by sisters Ruth Diobilda, Marjorie Bartone, Jean Morgan, and Joan Schlimme. Harper was married for almost seventy years to Wanda Schnader, who passed before him in 2015.

He attended the Compass School, then Gordon Jr. High, then S. Horace Scott Sr. High School. He served in the US Navy in 1946 and 1947. Harper retired in 1990 after forty years with PECO Electric. Harper had six grandchildren: Sarah, Tyler, Nathan, Michael, Jason and Matthew.

Condolences

I worked with Harper at PECO. He was a kind man who enjoyed playing poker with the boys, of which my husband was one. I enjoyed working with him & hearing his stories. He was a good man who will be missed.

Harper and his wife Wanda moved close to where I lived with my parents Myron and Vivian Ireland, they were a short walk away and he lived next door to his parents and sister Joan who was a close friend.  Harper and Wanda were good friends of my parents and I know they enjoyed their many visits with them to their place in Chincoteague.  Those fishing trips were a highlight of my stepfather's life as he loved to go fishing and I know they were good friends to my parents and Harper is the last of the old friends of my mother's younger days.  Harper also walked Pratts Dam Road and was involved in picking up trash with his little stick with a nail on the end and keeping the road cleaned up along with getting the exercise which probably helped keep him so active and upright at 89.  Mom and I saw Harper about five days before he passed, not sure if he was aware of who we were but mom held his hand and gave him a kiss on the forehead.  So glad she got to see him once again before he left us.  She shared many happy memories with he and Wanda.  Our condolences to his family for his loss.

I would like to express my deepest sympathy to the Schlimme family and relatives.  I grew up down the street from Harper's family home.  He was a very kind gentlemen, who I very much respected.  I often admired his strength!  I also enjoyed when he would drop in to say hello to my mom during one of his many walks through the neighborhood.  He will certainly be missed.  With deepest sympathy, Shanna Sizemore Gattuso
