Elmer C. Riggins, 82, of West Caln, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the LifeCare Hospital in West Chester. He was the beloved husband of Shirley Beck Riggins with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. Born in West Chester, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Marguerite Chandler Riggins.
An area resident all his life, he proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was employed, for 31 years, at the Rainbow Elementary School retiring as head custodian.
Elmer was a member of the Chester Co. Antique Car Club, the Antique Motorcycle Club of America and, until his illness, the Cornerstone Fellowship of Coatesville.
He is survived, in addition to his wife, by five children; Rebecca Anne Riggins of Coatesville, Deborah Joyce, wife of Jere L. Messner of East Earl, John E. Riggins of Honey Brook, Jennifer Lynn, wife of Andrew E. Yetter of Shillington, PA and Joy Louise, wife of Bill Knox of Bartlett, ILL., 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one sister Anna R. Billings of Chilhowie, VA. He was preceded in death by two sisters, four brothers and one great grandson Kolby Scott Phearsdorf.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 11:00 am from the Sandy Hill Community Church, 420 S. Sandy Hill Road, Coatesville, PA 19320 with visitation at the church from 10 to 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to James MacDonald Ministries at
