Chester W. Mullen, 79, of Gap, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at the Lancaster County Hospice Center in Mt. Joy. Born in Parkesburg, he was the son of the late William A. and Zelva May McGinnis Mullen.
An area resident all his life, he proudly served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. While serving, he was awarded the "Domain of the Golden Dragon Award" on board the USNS Marine Phoenix when they crossed the 108th Meridan.
Chester was employed for 42 years by the Lukens Steel Co. in Coatesville. He was a member of the Parkesburg Fire Co., the Parkesburg VFW, the Christiana American Legion and the Lukens Veterans Guild.
He is survived by five sons: Steven Mullen and wife Ashley of New Holland, Timothy Mullen of Gap, Donald Mullen and wife Charlotte of Sadsburyville, Michael Mullen and wife Vicky of Parkesburg and Scott Mullen of Sadsburyville, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one sister Ladelia "Dolly" Coffroth of Christiana. He was preceded in death by nine siblings.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 11am at the Upper Octorara Cemetery, 1121 Octorara Trail, Parkesburg, PA.
The Mullen Family wishes to thank the 5th floor Neuro Trauma Unit at Lancaster General Hospital and also Lancaster County Hospice for their compassionate care and professionalism.
