Carol Swisher Marshall
The children of Carol Marshall are sad to announce Carol’s passing on the evening of May 17,
2018 following a brief illness. Her family was at her bedside. Carol was born in Coatesville
on May 31, 1922, the daughter of Leonard and Elizabeth Waddell Swisher. She was proceeded
in death by her loving husband, Virgil Marshall, to whom she was married for 61 years. Carol is
survived by her 3 daughters, Sandra (Tinksy) Thompson (Paul) of Honeybrook, Rebecca Goebert
(Donald) of Tequesta, Florida, Judi Breger of Ephrata, a son, Blake Marshall (Manav Segal)
of Philadelphia, and sisters Sally Hasiey and Vivian Ireland, both of Coatesville, Pa. Carol
has 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
Prior to her marriage to Virgil, Carol was employed at the Bondsville Mill in Downingtown during
WWII, and at the Lukens Steel Company in Coatesville. While raising her four children,
Carol kept an impeccable country home, enjoyed collecting antiques, and was a member of a
local gardening club. Beginning in the late 1960s she was employed at the Coatesville Hospital
as a ward clerk in the operating room, and then from 1975-81 as a housemother in the
student nurses residence. Carol and Virgil were members of the Coatesville Country Club for
nearly 50 years, where they were avid golfers. She was a long time member of the First Baptist
Church of Coatesville before returning to Hibernia Methodist Church, where she attended
during her childhood.
Carol’s family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Heatherwood Retirement
Community for their compassionate care during her almost eight years in residence. The family
would also like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Holisticare Hospice, whose skill and
compassion were invaluable to Carol and her family.

Visitation from 10-11 AM prior to the service to celebrate Carol’s life on May 31, 2018 at 11 AM
at Hibernia Methodist Church. Interment at Hibernia Methodist Church Cemetery.
